About Me

So far, the study and practice of East Asian Medicine (EAM) has taken 47 years of my life, and I have been in practice since 1981; I learned Five Element acupuncture at the College of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture in Leamington Spa and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture with Giovanni Maciocia. After I graduated I travelled to the Peoples’ Republic of China, where I worked in a provincial university in Manchuria. This experience introduced me to Taijiquan, Qigong & Chinese Herbal Medicine, which I subsequently studied, in depth with Master Tihn Thong Nguyen from Vietnam.

During the 1990s, prior to relocating to Devon, I worked on the NHS, practicing acupuncture at the Complementary Medicine Centre based in Lewisham Hospital, South East London, which provided a multibed referral service for GPs in Lambeth Southwark Health Authority (now NHS South East London). I also practiced in three GP Fund Holding surgeries in South East London.

The style I now practice is called Japanese Meridian Therapy, which is routed in the medical classics of the Han Dynasty. Meridian Therapy is noted for its lightness of touch and for the use of moxibustion therapy.

I serve on the Accreditation Committees of the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board (BAAB) and the European Herbal and Traditional Practitioners Association (EHTPA), the bodies which oversee standards of education within acupuncture and herbal medicine communities in the UK.

As well as running a busy practice in Totnes, I also offer One-to-One and group Mentoring and Supervision for Acupuncturists, herbalists, and allied health practitioners. For more details see: https://www.mentoringandsupervisionnetwork.co.uk

Here in the UK, traditional acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) are relatively recent additions to the range of healthcare options available to us, but there is nothing new about this. Acupuncture and herbal medicine have been the primary healthcare choice in countries like China, Japan and Korea for centuries.

All around the world people visit traditional acupuncturists and herbalists for everything from acute pain – like arthritis and migraines – to complex disorders that can seem difficult to resolve. Combined, traditional acupuncture and CHM are a complete, evidence-based healthcare system that supports and stimulates your body’s natural healing processes. For thousands of years, it has been refined through research, observation and practical application to successfully treat disorders of all the body’s function – digestion, immunity, breathing, hormonal, cardiovascular, fertility, mental and emotional health.
